Royal Reds is a unique blend of Red Mahogany and Turpentine hardwoods. This combination delivers a rich reddish-brown colour with fine grain, as well as Class 1 durability for outdoor performance. Compared to softer species or imported rainforest timbers, Royal Reds offers a balance of striking appearance and exceptional lifespan.

When installed and maintained correctly, Royal Reds decking can last over 40 years. Its natural density and resistance to decay, termites, and moisture make it one of the most durable choices for New Zealand conditions — including high-use areas, coastal sites, and exposed decks.

Yes. Like all hardwoods, Royal Reds will naturally weather over time. Fresh boards display deep reddish-brown tones, which gradually soften to a silver-grey patina when exposed to sunlight and rain. Many homeowners value this natural ageing process, though you can preserve the original colour with regular oiling.

Royal Reds are sourced from responsibly managed Australian forests and comes with PEFC certification. This ensures you get the strength and character of a premium hardwood while making a more environmentally responsible choice for your home or project.

Kwila is a popular tropical timber, but it is often linked to unsustainable harvesting. Royal Reds provides a stronger, longer-lasting, and more ethical alternative. Both species offer rich colouring, but Royal Reds’ Class 1 durability and Australian forestry PEFC certification make it the better long-term option for New Zealand decking projects.
