To calculate how much flooring you need, measure the length and width of each room in metres, then multiply to get the square metre area. Add up the total if you’re doing multiple rooms. Once you have the total square metres, enter it into the calculator along with your selected floorboard profile — the tool will estimate the total lineal metres required. We recommend adding around 5% extra to cover offcuts and mistakes. If you’re not confident with your measurements, we’re happy to review your floorplan or give advice before you place your order.

Square metres represent the surface area you’re covering — basically, the footprint of your room. Lineal metres refer to the total length of floorboards required, factoring in the board width. You usually purchase flooring in lineal metres because board widths can vary between profiles. The calculator takes care of this for you by converting your square metre input into the correct lineal metre quantity based on your selected board size. If you’re unsure which profile is best, we can help match one to your design and installation needs.

Solid timber flooring is made from a single piece of hardwood, offering long-term durability and the ability to be sanded multiple times. Engineered timber flooring has a hardwood veneer over a stable plywood or composite base — it’s ideal for areas with humidity or where underfloor heating is used. LMA Timber supplies both options using sustainably sourced Australian species.
We supply a range of Australian hardwoods including Spotted Gum, Blackbutt, Ironbark, Tallowwood, and more — available in both solid and engineered formats. These species are prized for their durability, character, and warmth. If you’re not sure which species suits your space, lighting, or colour palette, let us know and we can suggest the most suitable option and confirm current stock availability.
Yes — we recommend allowing for 5–10% extra when ordering flooring. This accounts for cutting around walls, angles, and doorways, as well as any on-site damage. Our calculator gives you the base quantity in lineal metres, so be sure to add your wastage buffer before placing an order. If you’d like us to review your project and suggest a suitable margin, we’re happy to help.
Yes, engineered timber flooring can be installed over concrete, usually with a moisture barrier and either a floating floor method or adhesive. Solid timber flooring may also be installed over battens fixed to the slab. We don’t provide installation services, but we can guide you on species and profiles suitable for this type of subfloor and refer you to the right installation resources or specs.
Yes, timber flooring is commonly used in kitchens, dining areas, hallways, and commercial settings. Engineered options are often more stable in environments with fluctuating moisture. Choosing a durable species like Spotted Gum or Ironbark will help the floor withstand everyday wear. We can recommend prefinished boards and hard-wearing coatings if you’re working on a high-traffic zone.
Delivery times depend on the timber species, whether the product is solid or engineered, and whether you need a custom finish or pre-oiling. Standard profiles are usually available within 5–10 business days. Once you’ve used the calculator to estimate quantities, contact us to confirm current stock levels and lead times for your location.
