FACTORY CLEAR COAT OIL
Spotted Gum decking is one of the most durable and attractive hardwood options available in NZ. Sourced from sustainable grown Australian forests, it is renowned for its striking colour variations, ranging from light brown through rich chocolates to reddish tones, giving every deck a unique character.
As a Class 1 hardwood (40 year plus natural durability), Spotted Gum offers exceptional strength, natural resistance to termites, and long-lasting performance in harsh outdoor conditions. Its density and hardness mean it can withstand heavy foot traffic, while its natural oils enhance weather resistance. Sustainable, tough, and beautiful, Spotted Gum decking is a premium choice that combines style with lasting value.

Spotted Gum is a premium Australian hardwood, known for its striking natural variation — ranging from pale greys to deep reddish browns. Its strength, density and Class 1 durability make it one of the most reliable choices for decking in New Zealand.
With correct installation and care, Spotted Gum decking can last 40 years or more. Its natural resistance to termites, rot, and moisture makes it especially well-suited for New Zealand’s coastal and urban climates.
Yes. All Spotted Gum supplied by LMA Timber is harvested from responsibly managed Australian forests. We avoid rainforest timbers such as Kwila in favour of durable species that support better environmental outcomes.
Fresh Spotted Gum decking features a wide spectrum of tones — from soft blonde to rich brown. Like all hardwoods, it will weather to a silver-grey patina if left untreated. Regular oiling helps maintain the timber’s original hues for longer.
We stock Spotted Gum in standard decking profiles, most commonly 130 x 19 and 135 x 19. Other widths may be available such as 134 x 22mm depending on supply. Use our Decking Calculator to estimate how many lineal metres you’ll need for your project.
Yes. Thanks to its density and natural resistance, Spotted Gum performs exceptionally well in high-moisture and salt-air environments. With correct installation, it’s an excellent choice for pool surrounds, beachfront homes and exposed decks. Again, it might be beneficial to order a sawn finish for the surface or apply a slip resistant treatment such as Intergrain’s Ultra Deck – Slip Resistant Oil.
